SALSA
(10:00–12:30)
A clear, friendly introduction to the Safe and Local Supplier Approval (SALSA) scheme — ideal for businesses considering certification.

This session will cover: 

  • What SALSA is and who it’s for

  • Key requirements and how the Standard works

  • The certification journey: what to expect

  • Common pitfalls for first-time applicants

  • Practical tips for preparing your business

  • Q&A with a SALSA representative

Perfect for businesses wanting to understand whether SALSA is right for them and how to get started with confidence

Shelf Life Assessment (13:00–14:00)
Learn how to set safe, defensible shelf lives for your products. 

This session includes:

  • What shelf life really means (microbiological, sensory & quality)

  • How to assess risks and select appropriate testing

  • Practical steps for establishing and validating a shelf life

  • When and how to review shelf life decisions

Ideal for producers developing new products or wanting greater clarity on shelf life management.

Making Compliant Claims (14:15–15:15)
A practical guide to making accurate, legal claims on your products and marketing materials.

We’ll cover:

  • What counts as a “claim” (nutrition, health, provenance, free-from, sustainability, etc.)

  • Legal requirements and common compliance issues

  • How to evidence and justify claims

  • Tips for avoiding misleading wording

Designed to help businesses promote their products confidently while staying compliant.

West of England - Food & Drink Support Initiative

This event is funded by The West of England Food and Drink Support Scheme and eligible businesses/individuals can access subsidised tickets at £15 (more information and eligibility criteria below). 

Funded support is currently available to new and existing food and drink businesses - funded by the West of England Councils, West of England Combined Authority and North Somerset Council and being provided by the Future Food Partnership CIC through The Food WorksSW.

The West of England Food and Drink Support Scheme (WoEFDSI) is open to food producers, manufacturers, hospitality and food service businesses based in the area to help with technical and food development challenges faced by the businesses

Eligibility criteria:

  • This scheme is open to start ups, micro and small and medium sized enterprises.

  • Businesses based in the Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire areas

For individuals outside of the area, tickets are £20.
