Food Enterprise Zone
In The Zone
Plans are continuing to come together for a multi-million pound development creating new premises for Agri-food businesses in the South West. The 10 acre DEFRA designated Food Enterprise Zone, one of 17 such Zones in the country will provide an exciting opportunity for food developers, distributors, food and drink manufacturers, R&D and packaging to co-locate in a prime location, twenty minutes from the M4 and M5 interchange. The Food Enterprise Zone, part of the Junction 21 Enterprise Area (J21EA) site will consist of three key zones to create a food and drink cluster in one large dynamic development area.
Phase one – home to The Food WorksSW Food and Drink Innovation Centre,
Phase two – vital grow-on space with units of 3000 – 5000 sq ft
Phase three – plots for development
This cluster of support, facilities and premises will provide the food and drink industry with ideal conditions for growth and will help to support the supply chain across the South West.
The Food Enterprise Zone will focus on food chain industries and is expected to include a mix of research and development, production and processing, packaging, logistics and a whole range of support services such as quality assurance, food engineering etc. Once established, partners will work together to establish a Food Enterprise Zone that will provide a range of business growth opportunities. This supported environment will provide the added value needed to ensure that businesses fly. Food industry specific technology and innovation support will be facilitated byThe Food WorksSW and linked to the areas R&D strengths. The creation of specific skills and training programmes will tap into a strong network of existing local training and skills providers.
Planning permission for The Food WorksSW was granted in July 2017 with construction to start on site May 2018 and an anticipated opening in January 2019.
Phases 2 and 3 of the Food Enterprise Zone are currently being master-planned with work due to commence on the remaining infrastructure and utilities necessary to open up the site from January 2018.
